About us

Our Story

The Spear course began in 2004 with its first centre being opened in Hammersmith.  A second centre followed on the World’s End Estate in Chelsea in 2009.  Since then, two new satellite centres have opened in Shepherd’s Bush and North Fulham during 2011.  Spear now has the capacity to serve 360 students each year.

The highly interactive course addresses the most common causes of underachievement, such as the absence of motivation to consider opportunities, life skills, and job search skills; and the need for information, advice and guidance, qualifications and opportunity.

Of those who graduate from the course 75% are still in employment or training one year later.

Our six-week employment training course was highly commended by the CAF Charity of the Year Awards 2008 and by the Centre for Social Justice Awards for 2009.

2010 saw the set-up of SpearHead, a professional recruitment service aimed at encouraging businesses to create new employment opportunities for young people. SpearHead seeks to place the top 15% of Spear graduates in entry-level jobs through its network of businesses.

In 2011 we also launched Spear Solutions, a consultancy offering coaching to mid- to lower-level managers and employees in soft skills such as attitude, communications and values to enhance organisational morale, performance and retention of staff.
